OB x Toronto Public Library
The Installation
December is an exciting month for me and it’s not just about the Holidays. I will be taking over the walls at the Pape/Danforth Library for the entire month and installing some of my most recent work. It’s always really exciting to be able to curate the whole installation; the size of the space allows me to create a narrative. Also libraries are some of my favourite places. I feel very honoured to have my work in a space where people learn, dream, discover, and get inspired. I’ve spent hours and hours at libraries – reading, studying, writing. I love visiting libraries when I’m in a new city. All libraries are magical and even the smallest, dingiest libraries have mystique. Lucky for me, the Pape/Danforth Library is gorgeous and full of light. I’ve installed 10 pieces altogether, my most recent works. I wanted to express myself on a larger scale and because I have so much freedom in what I can display I wanted it to feel current for where I’m at as an artist.
The Contest
Now for the most exciting part! Throughout the month of December I will be sharing my favourite places to read and I’m inviting you to do the same.
• share a photo(s) of where you like to read throughout the month of December either on Facebook or Instagram (I’ll be doing this too!)
• make sure to follow and tag me (IG: oksana.berda; FB: obtoronto) as well as the Toronto library (IG: torontolibrary; FB: torontopubliclibrary) (you don’t have to do both but the option is there)
• use the hashtag #readingwithOB
• be candid and creative!
On January 1st, we will be choosing one winner who will receive Shorelines #1, the original. (Maybe you can put it in your reading nook at home.) This contest is open to everyone, no matter where you live, if you win I will ship it near or far. Get creative and have fun!
(Shorelines #1 is the first completed piece in a an ongoing series that I began in the Spring of this year.)
